Melissa Herdy - Clinical Psychologist

Melissa is a Clinical Psychologist with over 25 years of experience in the mental health field. She has worked in a range of settings, including Kids Help Line, disability services, community mental health, university counselling services and private practice.
Melissa enjoys making a positive difference in people’s lives by supporting and empowering them to improve their mental, emotional and physical health and wellbeing. Having worked for many years with university students, she is well versed in the needs of students. She has significant experience in treating stress, procrastination and perfectionism, sleep disturbance, self esteem issues, mood disorders (such as depression and Bipolar Disorder) and anxiety disorders. She has supported people with eating issues such as Bulimia and Binge Eating Disorder. She also enjoys supporting people through adjusting to life transitions and bereavement, facing significant health issues such as cancer as well as grief and bereavement.
Melissa has a good understanding of issues relating to military life and the impact of deployments. She understands the demands and challenges of parenthood and can offer support around relationship, parenting and family difficulties.
Melissa uses evidence-based treatments that are tailored to the individual. She draws from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing and Compassion Focused Therapy. She is a board-approved supervisor and enjoys mentoring early career psychologists.
In her life outside of work, Melissa is a busy mother of two. She tries (sometimes successfully!) to make space to get to practice yoga, pilates and meditation. Melissa has a warm, understanding and calm presence. Her friendly nature, sense of humour and non-judgemental approach will quickly make you feel at ease.
